There is no recognised pathway for a child from a lower income family to make to the highest level of Tennis in the UK.  Our belief and Project 10k's aim (backed by Jack Draper and Fran Jones) is to get 100 clubs/coaches to join in our vision to make Tennis in the UK more affordable by agreeing to offer 2 hours a week in their programme, at a genuinely affordable rate, e.g £2 an hour or less p/h. This can then start to open up pathways and result in 10000 hours in a year.

If you have a talented child who plays football, there is a pathway through clubs and academies for that child to reach the very top of the game. The LTA cannot fund every child to play tennis and it is our belief that clubs and programmes need to play their part in opening up pathways for any child to thrive. By operating like this we (G Tennis) have taken a girl form the local estate to county level so it proves it can be done.

 

We know there are so many programmes and coaches out there already doing this and we want to shine a light on that work. If we bring it all together under one umbrella then hopefully the perception of British Tennis start to change.

 

This can be an extra class for an existing player or offer it to your local school (a great way to break down a barrier too!), anything you like. Or maybe you are already doing it and want to let us know.  

 

With 29% of (4.2 million) children living in poverty and another 37% of families just about managing (JAMS) you start realise how small the pot is, of kids currently playing in the UK.

G Tennis has an incredibly diverse programme in terms of both ethnicity and social class and it's because we have found ways to make lessons affordable. Help us change the landscape by making coaching more accessible and if you do think you have found the next Fran Jones or Jack Draper, then we will support you to find ways to generate income to support them so they can fully reach their potential.
